Academy patnership needs bulwark against the campaign to stop it being built!!!!

The article in icwales says..."The St Athan Communications Working Group states on its website – which is hosted by the Metrix consortium of companies that will deliver the project – there is a need to create a “bulwark” to promote their plans “when pitted against the ‘Campaign to stop the St Athan academy from being built’ etc”. However you can't access the website...although it is sponsered by the welsh assembly and the vale of glamorgan endorced with their logos ..not even the exciting Defence Training Academy and the St Athan Partnership newsletter..

No2 Road South from Junction 34 for Military Academy

New Road to the airport?
Now what is this about - improve access for who? The Metrix Consortium? Improved roads required for the Academy? How much will this cost us?

This story in Jan is now followed up by a very quiet consultation on the road to the airport - an environmental big issue - there should also be a planning consultation soon. £100m transport boost on back of St Athan Jan 30 2007 ROADS and railways in South Wales could be in line for a £100m upgrade in the wake of the decision to build a massive military academy to St Athan....
The basic problem is that St Athan is somewhat remote from main road and rail arteries. This

was not a major obstacle during its relatively minor role as an RAF base, but the new academy will train 10,000 recruits from across the UK.
Although living on campus, they will need to travel to and from St Athan. Other workers will live off-site and commute to the academy, with 1,500 ancillary jobs predicted in the area.
The new facility will also need good freight access, for supply of food - including 600,000 loaves of bread each year - as well as any military hardware required.

Building a road south from Junction 34 may offer the best chance for improving road access in time for the academy's full opening in 2012. With no houses in the way, the planning process could be relatively straightforward - and the new route could partly use the existing A4226 road.

Not so many jobs at St Athan! Gioing down , down, down!

How many jobs at St Athan? 1,100 is no where near 5,000 jobs promised and that Rhodri Morgan was drinking champagne to celebrate!

The number of jobs in scope of package 1 has dropped from 1500 to 1100. These 400 posts are those not directly linked to training delivery.

Time for some honesty from our politicans!!

St Athan Military Academy colluding with arms manufacturers

Hypocrisy from Brown icwales Sep 29 2007

AS the monks in Burma are joined by more and more brave people to campaign for their freedom, the stench of hypocrisy from world leaders is overwhelming.
Who armed the despotic military dictatorship of Indonesia, which killed up to 200,000 people during their occupation of East Timor?

Britain and the US.

Who armed Saddam Hussein, who gassed thousands of his own people? Britain and the US.
Who is arming Israel with the latest lethal high tech weapons – cluster bombs, sound bombs etc used against the civilian populations in Lebanon and Palestine?

Britain and the US.

As Brown, Cameron and Bush shed their crocodile tears for Burma, the bullets, tanks and guns mowing down innocent people around the world have Britain stamped all over them.
Britain is selling arms and technology to 19 of the 20 nations at the top of the Foreign Office’s list of human rights abusers, and fuels regional instability by arming opposing sides in conflicts around the world.

Gordon and George demand the rights of the Burmese people to peacefully demonstrate.
But it was our Labour Government which brought out the most Draconian laws against peaceful protests, like Brian Haw’s vigil in Parliament Square against the Iraq war.

Can I also remind the Plaid/Labour coalition that the St Athan military academy, which they are all clamouring for, will be colluding with all the arms manufacturers responsible for the deaths of so many, and will undoubtedly be training some of the world’s dictators on how to kill and oppress their own people.

Demo at St Athan RAF and Army base

Story from Fitwatch! Officer LX365 - Ian Skivens was in attendance at a small demo outside the St. Athan RAF and army base in Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales on thursday august 23rd, along with a photographer friend from Staffordshire police force.

Activists from the "Stop St. Athan Murder Academy" coalition, which aims to stop the British military academy from being developed in the small town of St. Athan, stood outside one of the current bases gates with banners and placards as a photo opportunity to launch the campaign. When asked what he was doing such a long way from home, popular FIT watch pin up Ian Skivens said he was there to check out how other UK forces deal with protests or 'public order' situations. While he didn't seem to mind activists taking lots of photos of him, his photographer friend was more camera shy.
